Ilona Dougherty
Child protestor, Youth activist, punk band manager, Ilona grew up in Saskatchewan and the Yukon, and now lives in Montreal. At 14 she was the Chair of the Canadian Environmental Network Youth Caucus, and later served on the National Youth Roundtable on the Environment, Sierra Youth Coalition Executive Committee, & Sierra Club of Canada Board of Directors. In January 2004 Ilona co-founded Apathy is Boring where she is currently the Executive Director. She also continues to dance, manage bands, and create award winning choreography.
Rachel Dhawan
Born and raised in a socially active immigrant household in Toronto, Rachel Dhawan has been fighting most of her life for human rights and anti-oppression through her NGO work and art practice. After completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Concordia in Montreal, Rachel stayed on in Montreal as production manager for the Apathy Is Boring website, and to build her art practice and brazen, her silver jewellery business.
Mackenzie Duncan
Mackenzie Duncan is a photographer, graphic designer & creative director of The Apathy is Boring Project. Raised in Yellowknife and on Vancouver Island, Mackenzie attended Vancouver Film School in the New Media Program where he graduated in 2001. In 2004 Mackenzie co-founded Apathy is Boring and was solely responsible for brand development of this successful not for profit project that aims to use art, media, and technology to re-engage youth in the democratic process. Mackenzie now makes his home in Toronto but often travels to Montreal to work with his various clients including Apathy is Boring. His publish credits include the Montreal Gazette, Improved Magazine, Muchmusic.ca, cbc.ca, The Yukon News, & more.Adrienne Smith
After graduating from McGill University with a “do you want fries with that?” degree in Women’s Studies and Anthropology, Adrienne worked as a professional volunteer, intern, and stagiare with several NGOs and non-profits before happily colliding with the Apathy is Boring project. Deeply committed to women’s rights, she focused her activism during university on the Women’s Studies Student Association, academically as an executive and artistically as creative director for their literary publication. She currently chairs the fundraising committee for RECLAIM, a Montreal adult literacy organization, and volunteers with Jewish Women International of Canada.Amelia Clarke
Amelia Clarke is the External Evaluator for Apathy is Boring. She is also the Immediate Past President of the Sierra Club of Canada and a PhD student in Strategy in the Faculty of Management at McGill University. She has taught in the School of the Environment at McGill University and the Faculty of Management at Dalhousie University. Her research interests include: sustainable development, corporate social and environmental responsibility (CESR), campus environmental management, and non-profit management. She has most recently consulted for the Commission for Environmental Cooperation, the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation, and the Canadian Environment Network. Perhaps best known for founding and being the first National Director of the Sierra Youth Coalition, she is most proud of launching their sustainable campus program which is now active on more than 50 university campuses, and her successful efforts to help influence the creation of 10 new protected areas in New Brunswick, Canada.Overview
We started The Apathy Is Boring Project because even if the politicians don't always care about what we have to say, they can't ignore 7 million of us going to the polls.
