DNA6

are Apathy is Boring artists.
DNA6 (Featuring M. Prime) (formerly DNA) was formed in 2004 with Alex Maher (vocals, guitar, sax, beatbox) and MC Dosia (vocals) and featuring M. Prime (Mario Vaira) (vocals and guitar). That same year they released their first self-titled album, which has become an underground success.

The band’s sound is a unique blend of pop, hip-hop, funk and jazz elements which, combined with their intelligent and often poetic lyrics, provide a welcome new sound in the world of hip-hop. Since their inception they have performed live all over Western Canada and joined stages with such bands as Mobadass, Five Alarm Funk, Mother Mother and Hey Ocean!

For their first album, M. Prime was featured on three tracks, but during the course of making their second album, Human Condition, M. Prime took on a more active role, and is considered a permanent featured performer with DNA6. The second album, “Human Condition” was released May 12th, 2007. Human Condition has been in the works since 2004 and features guest performers Aspire (Josh Hook), Jess Vaira and Erica Dee, Ashleigh Ball of Hey Ocean!, Randy Ponzio of Quest Poetics, Shaun Verreault and Earl Pereira of Wide Mouth Mason, Zayne, Scott Tucker, Jay Davies and Chad Taylor....

Interview

What music are you listening to these days?

MC Dosia: I’ve been listening to a lot of Talib Kweli and Mos Def, Mack 10, WC and Tribe Called Quest. But mostly, I am writing so much that I don’t have time to listen to a lot of other people’s music. I spend a lot of time listening to beats that I myself, or someone that I’m affiliated with have made. I think that has helped me find my own voice in hip hop and assisted me in achieving my unique sound.

m.prime: Today it's Sufjan Stevens, David Axelrod, Danny Elfman, Shad, Prefuse 73...

Alex: Any music that has meaning and inspires.
