Youth-led development (YLD) gives young people a role in the struggle to make poverty history. The 2008 World Youth Congress (WYC) will assess progress with YLD since delegates coined the phrase at the first WYC in 1999. In reviewing YLD projects worldwide, delegates will try to answer the question: “What is the most effective role that youth can play in development?”

The 4th Wold Youth Congress will welcome 600 young activists from around 120 countries who are committed to rise to the generational
challenge of sustainable development. A majority will exhibit their Youth-Led Development (YLD) projects. Others will report on them – writing a book celebrating YLD achievements. All will take part in
discussions with development professionals and in a global
festival to celebrate International Youth Day, August 12th.

The 4th WYC Congress will be celebrating youth and the role they play in achieving the MDGs. The underlining principles that will be the base for our conference are:

Empowerment

Contribution to achieving the MDG

The Emphasizing models

Selflessness, integrity and the global family

Co-management

Partnerships, dialogue and cooperation

Sustainable development
