Last year's forum was all about making CONTACT, and this year's forum is focused on CONNECTing; connecting with new people from around the Basin, connecting with new skills and opportunities, and connecting with yourself!

The CONNECT Basin Youth Active Form 2009: The Low Down aims to:

  • Empower young people to take action in their communities
  • Identify current key issues for young people in the Basin
  • Develop a sense of interconnectedness in the Basin
  • Provide inspiration, skills, and tools for youth action
  • Give opportunity for youth to engage in adult-youth partnerships
  • Give broader access to the CBT’s youth resources (i.e. granting stream, media-related works: scratch mag and website).

Activities Include:

Art for Social Change: How can young people, especially those in rural/remote communities, use art in all its various forms to promote social change? We'll be hearing from an awesome organization in Quebec, Apathy Is Boring , on how you can use art to create the world you want to see. We'll also be meeting some local filmmakers, who'll share their skills with us.

Go Fish! Grant Writing session: Do you have a project you'd like to get off the ground, but feel baffled by the process of applying for grants? Fiona Glass to the rescue! Attend this session and get the 411 on writing proposals and applying for grants.

Voices: Being able to successfully guide a group of people through discussion is essential to bringing your community together to reach a common goal. This session will also feature innovative graphical facilitation, which is a visual tool used to bring people together and build trust.

The Megaphone: How do you get the word out in your community about a cause or a project? Check out this session to learn how to write press releases, get media attention, and reach your target audience.
