A growing awareness of social and environmental concerns is leading to even the trendiest of citizens questioning where their clothes come from and how they are made. Local clothing designers and small-scale producers and manufacturers concerned about the environment and fair trade are slowly changing the face of fashion.  But what does it mean to be ethically in fashion? And how can we adjust both our attitudes and practices to meet the challenge?

Moderator: Danny Lourenço is the founder of Rien à cacher (www.rienacacher.com), an ethical fashion boutique in Montreal’s Plateau Mont-Royal neighborhood. This socially-conscious business was officially launched in April 2006 prior to which Danny held the position of vice-president for a Quebec based transportation company.

Guest: Lis SuarezVisbal-Ensink is co-founder of FEM International (www.feminternational.org) an international cooperation organization based in Montreal that works with women in developing countries through the stimulation of micro-entrepreneurship activities.

The University of the Streets Café creates gathering places for community members to pursue lifelong learning and engagement in the form of collective discussions. They are an opportunity for people of diverse backgrounds and realities to meet, where all people and perspectives are welcome.
