Lakes of Canada

My profile

With their release “Broken Mirrors” launched on April 30th of 2011, Lakes of Canada promises to bewitch you with soaring melodies, diamond clear harmonies, and encapsulating stories. All classically trained and armed with guitars, piano, cello, glockenspiel, charango, various percussion, the all male vocal quintet’s musical influences range anywhere from Chopin and Synagogue music, to Queen and Fiona Apple.

Conor O’Neil received his undergrad in Music at McGill and is finishing his Masters in Film Scoring at Université de Montréal. Chris Barillaro majored in music at McGill and has a diploma in piano performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music. Jake Smith went to Wagner in NYC for a major in Musical Theatre Performance. Tim Dobby studied classical guitar at USC and recently was awarded an artists’ doctorate from McGill. Quin Norin studied at Mcgill’s Schulich School of Music and had a composition of his performed by the Victoria Symphony Orchestra.

In what can only be described as happenstance, Lakes were formed when Jake and Conor teamed up to headline a fundraiser. This is where they found their third band member, Chris, who joined the band soon thereafter. After some time, Tim joined the trio and just over the summer they were joined by Quin to make a Quintet.

Having recently come home from their first North American tour the Lakes boys are headed into the studio to record their debut full-length album which will be co-produced by Chris Fox (of Folly & the Hunter) and Brad Barr (of The Barr Brothers). The album is set to launch in the spring and will be followed by another North American tour.
