I am... An Activist

My profile

I'm a mechanical engineering professor at UBC and am strongly committed to democratic renewal in Canada. I'm a director of Fair Voting BC and the coordinator of Demochoice BC, which used a virtual election (demochoice.ca) to educate BC voters about the Single Transferable Voting system put forward by the Citizens' Assembly in the 2005 referendum.

My current focus is on the upcoming STV Yes Campaign in BC in May 2009. I would welcome help from anyone interested in getting BC to take this next step in its democratic evolution. Check out STV.ca for details.

In the background, I'm also working on a new group, Public Engagment in Electoral Reform (PEER), to engage Canadians in a similar citizens' assembly process aimed at producing recommendations for electoral reform that will be put to Canadian voters in a referendum. We're looking for help and supporters, and AisB seems a likely source of both. Please let me know if you want to talk about this - send email to info @ stv.ca.
