UNFCCC in Bali

What can I do? Attend a Conference

Category: Environment

When: 06:00 PM December 3, 2007 to 06:00 PM December 14, 2007

The Canadian Youth Delegation is now accepting applications to participate at the Thirteenth Session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Third Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (COP13 and MOP3)

COP13 is a critical time for determining the future of international climate change policy. The future of the UNFCCC process is uncertain and with it the future of international action to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Youth from around the world, including Canada, have mobilized a significant presence at previous COPs, and this year we intend to step it up and demonstrate that youth have an important voice on the fate of our climate.

Canadian youth have a history of being one of the largest, loudest, and most effective groups at the climate negotiations. In the recent past, youth have organized participation in Montreal (COP11/MOP1 in 2005) and sent a strong delegation to Nairobi (COP12/MOP2 in 2006). It is again time for Canadian youth to demonstrate leadership and mobilize our delegation to Bali, Indonesia.

In joining the CYD Bali team, you will have official accreditation with the UN as a conference participant, and access to funding opportunities and resources through the delegation's fundraising efforts. Joining the team also strengthens the delegation's pool of resources, garners more attention at the conference, and allows us to connect to the global climate change movement.

Delegates will be expected to engage in substantial preparation and fundraising efforts in the months leading up to the conference. Before travelling to Bali, delegates will work together to educate themselves, develop policy priorities, acquire skills in effective lobbying, and engage youth across the country on climate change. At COP13, delegates will collaborate with each other and other international youth to participate in areas of interest to them, which include: policy, media, lobbying and logistics while taking part in other conference activities.

Seeking: 20 youth from across Canada, diverse in culture, age, and experience
