Apathy is Boring
The Apathy is Boring Project uses art & technology to educate Canadian youth about democracy. After an extremely well received campaign focusing on voter turnout in the June 2004 election & again in January 2006, Apathy is Boring re-launched its brand and website in the fall of 2006. Since that time Apathy is Boring has continued its work focusing on democracy projects that will create dialogue between youth and community leaders using innovative technology, youth friendly workshops, and edgy offline arts events.

Marketing and Events Coordinator
Duration: 52 weeks (with possibility of extension)
Position Type: Full Time - 35 hours per week
Start / End Dates: May 5th 2008 – April 30th 2009
Location: Apathy is Boring office: 10 Pins West (Suite 412), Montreal QC
Salary: $15 per hour
Position reports to: Executive Director
Job Description Summary:
To successfully promote Apathy is Boring to Canadian youth, artists and community leaders; to develop promotional tools and strategies; and to support the coordination of events and concerts.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
To assist in the organization and promotion of Apathy is Boring September 2008 Concert Series (Quebec City, Montreal, Halifax)
To coordinate the development of promotional materials such as: PSAs, promotional DVD, viral videos, advertising, link exchanges, and contests.
To organize an Apathy is Boring presence at three or more concerts & events each month, and to promote Apathy is Boring and manage volunteers at such events.
To promote the Apathy is Boring website and increase usership on the site and to keep A is B profiles on external sites (Facebook & Myspace) up to date.
To assist with content development for the Apathy is Boring website & external profiles.
To direct and coordinate activities to ensure the proper use of the Apathy is Boring brand.
Other related Marketing & Administrative tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
- University Degree in Marketing or Communications or related field.
- Event planning experience
- Effective communicator able to work with a diversity of partner groups
- Excellent writing and communications skills
- Bilingual
- Basic Computer skills are essential; Photoshop, Illustrator and design skills an asset.
- Video editing skills (Final Cut Pro) an asset
- Able to function effectively in a fast paced environment
- Independent worker who is also a team player
- Outgoing, friendly, and flexible
- Excellent attention to detail and proven track record of accuracy
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Experience working with volunteers an asset
- Sales Experience is an asset
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn are important!
Eligible candidates:
- Are entry-level and emerging cultural professionals who have graduated from college or university within the last 4 years and have recently entered the work force.
- Are unemployed or under-employed.
- Are between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive)
- Are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
- Must be registered with CultureWorks (www.cultureworks.ca) - Canada’s on-line cultural recruitment network.
- May not be in receipt of EI benefits immediately before or during the internship
- May not participate as part of co-op, certificate or credit programs with any university, college or training institution
- May not have participated in any of the Youth Employment Strategy Work Experience Programs targeted at post-secondary graduates.
- May not have been previously employed by the host organization
