STOP CANADIAN DMCA LAW! (Bill C-61)

I am very disappointed with this new law (Bill C-61). The Conservatives are trying to pass a law that is more hardcore than the American DMCA. To paraphrase, this law will make Macs, Linux (due to apparently inadequate copyright filing), turning Autorun off, TV Tuners, and much else illegal! Write to your MP, do whatever you can! This law is a lot like the American DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act) which is the law against copyright infringement. In the US, it is pretty outrageous but not as bad as it will be in Canada. In Canada, it's gonna be so outrageous if Bill C-61 is passed that if you do pretty much any downloading, including iTunes music, you can get a $500 fine. Something else that is pretty bad is that you can only record a certain amount of television which makes TV tuners and DVRs pretty much useless. Any other private use infringement is $500. So no more downloading from Limewire or even watching music videos on YouTube, as far as I understand it. No more ripping CD's to your computer. Your iPod is pretty much useless if this passes.

There is a $20,000 fine for anyone who publicly infringes copyrighted material. For example, if you put a music video on YouTube you will be in violation of this proposed law.

They've gone a little overboard with this... And you can't hide from them. This bill gives the government the right to use your ISP to see who is file sharing and they will investigate if your file sharing is of copyrighted material.
