What music are you listening to / art are you checking out these days?

I'm definitely excited about the new Common album.  All the songs I've heard so far are solid.  Also waiting to check out the Kanye album too.  He's interesting 'cause he seems like a real open and honest dude who says what's on his mind.  As for artists on the come up, I definitely keeping a close eye on Joell Ortiz.  He's a dope MC who might finally put NY back on the map!

Why should people, especially youth, vote?

Because it's the most direct and simple way to get your voice heard.  But it's not just voting that's important.  It's knowing the issues that affect your community so you can make you vote reflect that.

For you, is there a connection between art and democracy? What is it?

I think art is something quite universal that transcends time and space, unlike democracy, which is a product of the European Enlightenment.  Art reflects the human spirit - human needs, fears and aspirations.

Why do you care about community, when it is so easy not to?

Caring about community means having the ability and willingness to look beyond yourself to see what's going on around you, to see what other people's needs are.  This is not always easy because we're all under pressure in our own lives already, without having to worry about what's happening to people around us.
 

What do you look for in a politician? What do you expect from your MP?

Not very much, I'm afraid. (LOL!)  Politicians of all stripes have been known to leave a trail of broken promises once in power.  But ideally, I would look for someone who's honest and responsive to the needs of their constituency.  Because after all they are simply our representative in the government.
