What music are you listening to / art are you checking out these days?

I can't stop listening to Fleetwood Mac almost exclusively, which has been a problem for some time now. The latest El Perro Del Mar record has got my toes tapping as well. I'm also obsessed with H.P. Lovecraft, and have started reading some non-fiction about mushrooms and mycology.

Why should people, especially youth, vote?

It's important for youth to vote, because I think most adults aren't voting on behalf of youth; they're voting on behalf of the interests of adults. If you want someone in office that represents your interests, the interests of youth, then you had better get out there and make your own vote count. There's nothing cheesy about that. It's just true.

For you, is there a connection between art and democracy? What is it?

Definitely art can be a democratizing force. Under ideal circumstances, it's a great way for people to get together and communicate ideas openly. Unfortunately, much like democracy, some people have more access to artistic outlets than others.

Why do you care about your community, when it is so easy not to?

Community is where it all happens. Without the social support network a community provides, it's very hard to get anywhere in life. The stronger a community is, the more community members have a shot at achieving their goals. If you act in ways that contribute to the health and viability of your community, the return on your investment will be substantial.

What do you look for in a politician? What do you expect from your Member of Parliament?

I look for and expect Members of Parliament to look out for the interests and well-being of marginalized people and the environment.

What causes do you actively support?

One thing I like to do is try to consume somewhat responsibly. It's hard to be a purist when you don't have a lot of money, but it's good to think about these things when you're shopping. For example, supporting local businesses whenever possible, choosing products that haven't traveled thousands of miles in big trucks, avoiding things like industrialized beef and corn, which are both environmentally-horrific industries. And avoiding processed food is not only good for you, it's good for the planet.

What are one or two simple actions you recommend youth take to make a difference?

Get up off the couch and don't keep your ideas to yourself.
