Better Health Care
Let’s establish a minimum standard of care for seniors. Let’s hire more health care workers to care for seniors. Let’s increase funding for seniors’ services. Let’s stop privatization and make sure health dollars go to patients,not profits. Let’s pass the NDP’s Safeguard Our Seniors Act to protect seniors from abuse and protect whistleblowers from punishment. And let’s increase seniors’ daily food allowance.


Affordable Education
New Democrats stand up for students. We believe they should be able to afford a high-quality post-secondary education: because young people are our future; because we all benefit from a highly-educated workforce; and because no one should have to mortgage their future to build a better life for themselves.

The NDP has a fresh idea – the Tuition Hike Ban bill. If passed, the bill would freeze tuition through 2007, then give working families their say on the issue in the next provincial election.


Clean Green Energy
The NDP stands up for working families. We have a fresh idea -- a safe, clean, affordable and reliable supply of publicly owned and publicly controlled electricity, focused on an aggressive approach to renewables, energy efficiency and energy conservation.

This approach worked in California where the state built the equivalent of 12 power plants with energy efficiency investments, replacing the need for 12,000 megawatts of generation capacity – or almost 50 per cent of Ontario’s peak demand on a hot summer day. We can make it work in Ontario too.


Job Protection
The Job Protection Act , if passed, would establish an Ontario Job Protection Commissioner to help at-risk companies overcome financial difficulties and sustain good manufacturing jobs.

The Job Protection Commissioner is a fresh idea -- a strong, energetic honest jobs advocate with a clear mandate to bring workers, employers, creditors, investors and community leaders together to put troubled businesses back on a solid footing, to protect communities and sustain jobs.

Fair property taxes - New Democrats stand up for homeowners.

New Democrats have a fresh idea – the Freeze Till Sale property assessment model. The new model - put forward by the NDP's Task Force on Assessment and Property Tax - would freeze the assessed value of your home at its purchase price for as long as you own your home. It would make property assessment fair, predictable and easier to understand.


Pump Shock
Gas price regulation – for fair, stable predictable prices at the pump.

The NDP stands up for consumers. We believe in strong, effective consumer protection – safeguards only the province can provide – to make sure no big business can swindle, cheat or rip off hard-working ordinary folks.

Gas price regulation is a fresh idea that will make a real difference for drivers. It will stop gas price volatility, eliminate opportunistic price gouging and deliver fair, stable and predictable fuel prices – and lower gas prices over the long haul.


Fairness for new Ontarians
New Democrats stand up for New Canadians. We believe in an Ontario that is strong because it is diverse -- where people from different backgrounds, from different countries and who speak different languages all work together to build a province where everyone shares in our prosperity.


Help for the vulnerable
New Democrats stand up for our most vulnerable citizens. We believe in an Ontario that holds limitless opportunities for people – and prosperity that can be shared and enjoyed by all citizens, because everyone matters.

Helping our most vulnerable citizens – now there’s a fresh idea. Let’s build that affordable housing. Let’s create more childcare spaces. Let’s provide treatment to every autistic child who needs it.
