Province increases OAC funding by $20-million
by James Adams — April 30, 2008
With the Toronto race losing in excess of $4-million a year, according to sources, a key issue is how much of the shortfall would be covered by Andretti Green and how much by the provincial government and Tourism Toronto. Ontario's Liberal government is adding $20-million in new funding to the Ontario Arts Council over the next four years, the province's Culture Minister announced yesterday.
Aileen Carroll said the increase means that by fiscal year 2009-10, the OAC's annual budget will be just under $60-million, an increase of nearly 140 per cent from 2003 when Dalton McGuinty's Liberals took office.
