NOTE: Apathy is Boring is holding a Staff / Board Retreat on August 18 & 19 in the Laurentians (north of Montreal). Applicants should indicate their availability for the Retreat in their letter.
Background
Apathy is Boring is a non-partisan charitable organization that uses art and technology to educate youth about democracy, with the aim of increasing youth voter turnout, increasing youth engagement in the democratic process, and building a sustainable dialogue between youth and elected officials.
Opportunity
Apathy is Boring’s board of directors is looking to recruit two individuals who have a passion for engaging uninvolved youth (18 – 35 years old) in democracy and who are excited to work to help this dynamic and innovative organization grow. We are particularly looking for individuals who have significant experience in the areas of:
-Non-profit organizational management
-Fundraising
Our board of directors is composed of ten members and reflects the philosophy of Apathy is Boring including being youth-driven, encouraging partnerships and mentorship, being efficient, and being professional. We hold evening meetings every two months, and directors are expected to volunteer five to ten hours every month including board meetings, committee meetings, and project work with Board, staff, and volunteers. Directors are also asked to actively participate in fundraising activities. Directors’ mandates are for a duration of two (2) years, and are renewable.
Requirements
Prospective board members should:
• Have experience and / or interest in the work and the mission of Apathy is Boring;
• Match the profile mentioned above;
• Have leadership ability and experience;
• Be a team player;
• Be bilingual (English and French);
• Have experience being on a board of directors (asset);
• Have knowledge of Canadian politics and the NGO sector (asset);
• Strong interpersonal skills - outgoing, friendly, and flexible;
• High personal integrity, honesty and professional standards;
• Have a sense of humour, quick wit, and positive attitude.
