Workshop Description:

We have all see things go horribly wrong while event planning, whether it is snow storm, a volunteer who doesn’t show up, or worst yet someone walking off with all your donations. Risk management for any organization means taking the time to think about what could happen, and then taking the steps needed to prevent those things from happening, or to reduce their impact if they do. Buying insurance is NOT risk management! This interactive session will help you to assess your organization’s status and begin to make a plan. A good risk management strategy can save a lot of grief, anxiety and problems.

Presenter:

Val Mayes has been working in the field of community development for over 25 years. She has an undergraduate degree in Outdoor Recreation from Lakehead University and a Masters in Adult Education from the University of Alberta. She has worked with a wide range of organizations, and has taught sessions on leadership, risk management, board development, working with volunteers, and other topics relevant to nonprofit and community-based groups. Through her consulting business Building Connections Training and Consulting Val has helped groups with planning, decision-making and working collaboratively to achieve shared goals. She lives in Winlaw B.C., and is an active volunteer in her own community.
