Progressive Canadian Party
Leader: Tracy Parsons
http://www.progressivecanadian.org/| Environment | The PC Party sees the Kyoto Protocol as an opportunity to transform the Canadian economy, retrofit Canada’s infrastructure, clean up the air and water, and prepare Canada for the impact of global warming while trying to minimize it. |
| Taxation | Schedule paying off Canada’s real debt over the next 25 years. The PC Party would institute a “Social Auditor” to track and measure spending in social programs. |
| Armed Forces/Military | The PC party believes a well-equipped, highly motivated military is the key to Canada’s sovereignty and place in the world. The PC Party has a plan to get out of Afghanistan with dignity. They believe that economic aid and justice are the best weapons against terror. |

| Seniors/Low Income | No Official Position |
| Health Care | A one-tier health care system that allows small business (i.e. doctors) to play a key role in the public system. If it is more cost effective to utilize business in the health care system, then that should be Canada’s aim, provided that health care is still available to all at no cost and that payment will not put someone at the front of the line. Education programs will equal more trained medical staff staying in Canada to relieve the shortage. |
| Post Secondary Education | The PC Party believes in equal opportunity for all and will provide a program of economic support for every student in post secondary education to ensure universal accessibility. Over a period of years the PC Party will phase in a tax based program to relieve students of debt. Provided the graduate stays in Canada for a period of years and participates in the tax system, Canadian students will no longer carry debt. The PC Party will renew funding to post secondary institutions for operations and not just capital projects. This program will cover all post secondary education from trade schools to universities. |
| Child Care | No Official Position |
| Immigration | No Official Position |
| International Policy | The PC Party wants to find the .7% solution and make a contribution towards world peace by ending the scourge of world hunger and disease in our lifetime. |
| Democratic Reform | Restore income trust legislation to its previous state and work with all key stakeholders to develop legislation that makes sense for Canadians. |
| Agriculture/Fisheries | The PC Party supports family farms as a great example of small business and would implement the “100 mile challenge” which encourages purchasing from local enterprises to benefit family farms and innovative agricultural businesses. While the PC Party supports the Wheat Board, they also want an equivalent of the CMHC for farmers. They would guarantee mortgages to facilitate the housing market for farmers to relieve the pressures that drive them off the farms. |
| Accountability | The PC Party proposes a contract with constituents because keeping promises is essential to faith in democracy. They believe that government needs accountability and an end to patronage. The PC Party wants Canada to honour the Kelowna Accord with First Nations; continue what was started by meeting Kyoto commitments; and keep its promises to provincial governments. |
NGOs
NGO - three letters you might have seen tossed around that seem to be doing something, but what? NGO stands for Non-Governmental Organisation, which means a non-profit group or association that acts outside of institutionalised political structures.
