Sarah Siddiqui

Sarah Siddiqui has been intensely honing her soulful folksy sound for the past 9 years in Toronto.  Her lyrical and vocal style could be described as warm, vibrant, and gutsy.  Sarah’s songs always stem from an honest well of emotions.  Now at 24 years of age, she has over 3 albums worth of original songs and is currently in the studio recording her first cd for release (Lotus Laden). She is solely writing and producing the record.  With crystal clear ideas, Sarah will be giving the record a very lush yet sparse sound comprising of a mixture of Canadian and Pakistani elements.  Her South Asian background takes form in her melodies and pure tone of voice.   Sarah’s parents were born in Pakistan and immigrated to Canada where she was born. Having a rich and diverse view of the world, Sarah brings a lot of fresh perspectives to her music. Her mother, Syeda Nuzhat Siddiqui is an internationally acclaimed peace poet of Urdu literature.  An influential force, Sarah began writing poetry and songs at the age of 9, and began performing live venues at 15 years of age....

In her high school years she recorded an indie record for herself, titled ‘petals of the self’ which featured eastern instruments, landing her more venues at (Rivoli, Reverb, Holy Joe’s, C’est What, Freetimes café, Opera House and Lee’s Palace). Also, lending her voice to a number of records varying from Spanish flamenco music, to house beats to reggae music, in the process Sarah kept developing her own writing style and sound and studied voice with the Royal Conservatory of Music and with the prominent Bill Vincent.  Sarah taught herself guitar, which opened up a whole new writing world. Putting herself through a developmental process, Sarah impressively secured writing and recording sessions with Joydrop, Jesse Cook, Doc, and has performed live with Tom Barlow, Terrence Gowan, and Ron Sexsmith’s backing players. Her list of supporters and fans also include Spek, Ron Macey (Skydiggers), Ron Sexsmith, and The Salads. Creating a buzz for herself, and based on word of mouth Sarah was nominated for best singer songwriter for the 2003 MyBindi awards.  To add to that, in 2001, Sarah was handpicked by Danny DeVito to take on the role of guitar player in the feature film ‘Death To Smoochy’ starring Robin Williams and Edward Norton.  Sarah got the chance to work closely with these actors, now new fans of her music.  One of Sarah’s songs ‘strayed’ was handpicked by Donnie Whalberg to be used in the film he was starring in ‘Triggermen’. These exciting opportunities reinforced and confirmed her place in the music industry. Sarah Siddiqui has a firm grip on the direction of her career, has done her homework, and is more then ready now to take it to the next level.
