On Friday March 21st, five young Montreal artists and environmentalists will be hosting an art show in the name of a greener planet. The Glamort Gallery, a tattoo-parlour-turned-art-gallery, will host the Replant Art Show, featuring the work of Cameron Novak, Lea Trudel, Leila Roloff, Emily Crowley and Chantal Premont.

These five artists are so generously donating all the proceeds from their show to the Montreal-based non-profit, Taking Root, which is fundraising in support of community-based reforestation projects in Nicaragua.

Cameron Novak, the show's curator, has created more than 20 paintings for this exhibition, each expressing his confusion and admiration of nature. Lea Trudel, a photographer who recently returned from Nicaragua, will be displaying her photos of the people and the environment that clearly show the complex beauty that nature has to offer. The three other artists have also created pieces dealing with the magnificent beauty of the natural world.

Taking Root was founded a year ago by a group of passionate youth wanting to help improve the environmental situation in Nicaragua. The organisation's mission is to restore and protect Nicaragua's tropical forest through community empowerment and the support of locally-run reforestation projects. Taking Root also aims to address global climate concerns, as reforestation in tropical climates is one of the simplest and most affordable ways to help absorb our world's greenhouse gas emissions.

With events such as the Replant Art Show, the team is raising funds to support the Nicaraguan non-government organisation, FEDICAMP (Federation for the Holistic Development of People in Rural Communities). This partner organisation works closely with members of rural Nicaraguan communities to plant trees and rebuild their tropical ecosystems. Taking Root provides a great way for concerned individuals to contribute to this community-based restoration process.
