Ottawa Youth Commission Conference: Stop Whispering, Start Shouting!

The Ottawa Youth Commission's 2008 conference is called Stop Whispering…. Start Shouting! We want to inspire and equip youth with tools to act and address everyday issues. We hope to encourage awareness and engagement among young people and to promote projects that create social change.

In Local Issue Workshops, youth will analyse how to address the issue they face, devise an action plan for the best way to tackle the issue and present a way to implement the plan or even better, implement the action plan after the conference.

Global workshops aim to inspire participants to play a more active role in global issues and what they can do to become global citizens. Youth will hear about an "act locally-think globally" project implemented by youth that deals with the issue of poverty and hunger. Participants will think of a new project concept that addresses the issue of poverty and hunger and implement a plan to turn that idea into action.

Both workshops will inspire youth to believe that it is possible for them to create change. We want to create better futures for people by connecting the dots between intent and action. All participants will receive an Action Planning Toolkit after registration which gives ideas and tools to implement action plans and projects
