École d'été de l'Institut du Nouveau Monde! / Institut du Nouveau Monde's Summer School!
Que puis-je faire? Assistes à une conférence
Catégorie: Jeunesse
The 5th edition of Institut du Nouveau Monde’s Summer School will take place in Quebec City, from August 12 to August 16, 2008. The activity is recognized as an official Event of the Quebec City 400th anniversary program, and will be held at Université Laval, and at Espace 400e, the heart of the festivities of this year’s celebrations.
INM Summer School promises to be electrifying once again this year. More than 1000 youths, from 15 to 35 years old, will attend to more than 100 activities, among those conferences, panels, group projects, and workshops about current affairs and social, economic, politic and cultural issues, which Quebec and the world now have to face. Furthermore, the Summer School (in collaboration with Les Offices jeunesse internationaux du Québec – LOJIQ) will also organize more than 20 shows and activities at the Espace 400e, and many special activities in relation with the World Youth Day on August 12 2008. The great majority of these activities will take place in French. However, there is a range of opportunities to participate to the Summer School, even if you don’t speak this language. You will discover many of these possibilities in this document. If you want to see the full program of the Summer School, please visit www.inm.qc.ca (in French only). The 4th World Youth Congress – Regeneration 2008 – which will take place from August 10 to August 21 2008, will welcome around 600 youths from 120 countries. It promises to be a great meeting place. Many initiatives will allow participants from both events to meet together, and some activities will be organised in cooperation.
Québec, ville d’avenir
The evenings of the Summer School, usually more casual, will take place at Espace 400e. The Société du 400e anniversaire of the City of Quebec has appointed INM and LOJIQ for the organisation of a week of activities for the general public, around the topic Québec, ville d’avenir. More than 60,000 people are expected to take part to a gigantic collective brainstorming and to participate to more than 20 festive and socially engaged activities. An opening ceremony will present local as well as international artist.
Options for Non-Francophones
Most of the activities of the Summer School will be held in French. Here is a great opportunity to practice your French in an informal environment! However, INM has some offers, where English speaking people will be able to participate.

Quebecers, First Nations, and Inuit
This group project aims to create a dialogue between the First Nations, the Inuit, and Quebecers of all origins, in order to identify common problematical issues, and to explore ways to solve them. Discussion groups will be made around issues to debate on, and every group will have to formulate propositions and pieces of solution for a plural and inclusive Quebec. SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM
The aim of INM’s Summer School is to enhance the level of social commitment of our youth through an interactive program combining education and deliberations as well as artistic and playful activities. To this end, INM wishes to establish a partnership with organizations, associations and businesses throughout the various communities from which the participants are coming from. This way, the Sponsorship Program offers an opportunity for many actors of the Québec society to become involved.
On the other hand, has to be accessible for all young people from every social environment as well as from every region of Québec. Through its Sponsorship Program, INM wants to make sure that participation costs are not an obstacle particularly for those who have to pay for transportation and lodging. Individuals, associations, organizations and businesses are therefore invited to sponsor young participants through coverage of participation costs. For many young people, these costs often represent a significant sum of money, while it represents only a small amount for a business or an association.
