Job Description

Founded in 2004, Apathy is Boring is a national, youth-led, non-partisan, charitable organization that uses creative methods to educate youth about democracy and community engagement, with the aim of increasing youth voter turnout, increasing youth engagement in the democratic process and building a sustainable dialogue between youth and decision makers. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Fund Development Coordinator  is responsible for implementing the organization’s fundraising and development strategy. This includes partnership development, soliciting major gifts, corporate donations, in-kind resources as well as grant writing. Communicating the organization’s impact as well as relationship development skills will be key components to the successful implementation of the fund development strategy.

Responsibilities:

Fundraising 40%:

  • Collaborate with Executive Director and Board of Directors on development the Fund development strategy
  • Monitor trends in Apathy is Boring hub communities and across the country
  • Research and track potential donors
  • Support with letter writing and application proposals for new donations
  • Maintain good communication and share impact with ongoing donors
  • Track fundraising targets and build on previous year achievements 

Grant writing 40%:

  • Research and monitor relevant call for proposals
  • Support with grant writing and building project proposals
  • Maintain relationship with granting officers, and support with reporting
  • Track grant development targets and build on previous year achievements 

Communications & Events 10%: 

  • Support the Events Coordinator and Executive Director with fundraising events
  • Support with annual fundraising asks
  • Support the Communications Team with annual report dissemination 

Admin 10%:

  • Ensure the achievement of expected timelines and deliverables, and the efficient use of human and practical resources
  • Take part in team building and professional development activities
  • Manage timelines and track tasks completed
  • Track hours worked, maintain organized files
  • Organize and update CRM database

Skills/experience:

  • Bachelors in Communications, Journalism, Political Science, Public Relations, Marketing or related field
  • Minimum of 2 year of experience in Fund Development
  • Excellent written and oral English and French skills
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Well developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport
  • Strong knowledge of computer and database/spreadsheet/word processing software
  • Experience with research and maintain databases
  • Excellent communication skills including verbal, written and presentation skills  
  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a team based environment
  • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities  
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills
