Founded in 2004, Apathy is Boring is a national, youth-led non-partisan, charitable organization that uses art and technology to educate youth about democracy and community engagement, with the aim of increasing youth voter turnout, increasing youth engagement in the democratic process and building a sustainable dialogue between youth and decision makers.


Reporting to the Executive Director, the Youth Friendly Coordinator is tasked with implementing Apathy is Boring’s Youth Friendly programming. The Youth-Friendly program consists of workshops, presentations, youth-engagement consulting and volunteer management. The Youth-Friendly Coordinator will be responsible for reviewing and updating workshop content as needed, facilitating workshops across Canada in English and French, client management, report writing and community outreach.

The Youth-Friendly Coordinator will also coordinate the Apathy is Boring volunteer network by recruiting, scheduling, managing, communicating with, supporting, and retaining volunteers & interns. The Youth-Friendly Coordinator will be responsible for partnership development with National and Regional NGOs in conjunction with the Executive Director and Communications Coordinator, as well as related administrative tasks including database maintenance, and keeping accurate records.


Workshop content & facilitation 40%:

  • Update Apathy is Boring’s civic engagement workshop content
  • Secure community organization partnerships to host workshops
  • Conduct bilingual workshops for youth (18-25)
  • Travel across Canada as needed
  • Coordinate workshop logistics and collect feedback surveys

Volunteer Management 30%:

  • Develop and lead Apathy is Boring’s volunteer engagement strategy
  • Recruit, train and support volunteers across Canada
  • Manage relationships with partner organizations relevant to volunteer engagement

Project Management 20%:

  • Submit monthly activity reports to the Executive Director
  • Ensure the achievement of expected timelines and deliverables, and the efficient use of human and practical resources with the supervision of the Executive Director
  • Track hours and update project work plans
  • Support the Executive Director and Communications Coordinator in the grant-writing and program-mapping processes

Admin 10%

  • Participate in weekly staff meetings
  • Maintain databases (volunteer engagement, partner organizations etc)
  • Be flexible to supporting other staff on tasks and high priority items


  • Post-secondary education in Communications, Education, Political Science, Liberal Arts
  • Excellent workshop facilitation skills  
  • Excellent written and oral English skills, and proficiency in written and oral French
  • Well developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with organizational staff and volunteers
  • Strong project management, problem solving and analytical skills with an ability to anticipate problems and develop appropriate solutions
  • Experience in the non-profit/volunteer sector
  • Excellent knowledge of computer and database/spreadsheet/word processing software
  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a team based environment
  • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities  
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills
