About the Organization

Apathy is Boring (A is B)  is a national non-partisan, charitable organization that supports and educates youth to be active and contributing citizens in Canada’s democracy.

In January 2018, A is B was announced as one of the ten national partners for the pilot of Canada Service Corps — a federally funded initiative under which A is B has launched its RISE program. Over the course of two years, RISE will have created 875 youth service opportunities through 25 community projects across 7 major Canadian cities.

In June 2019, A is B launched its Federal Election plan #iSpeakElection to get out the vote through a series of videos, resources, and youth oriented social media content. The #iSpeakElection plan includes a Media Literacy campaign that encourages young Canadians to be more critical and vigilant of their consumed media.

The role of the board

The Board of Directors is the legal authority for Apathy is Boring. As a member of the board, a director acts in a position of trust for the community and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization. The Board of Directors is accountable to Apathy is Boring’s funders for the services outlined in any contribution agreements or contracts. Our Board works closely with the Executive Director in a governance but non-operational capacity.

The board meets approximately five times per year and board members are expected to attend all board meetings and to join one committee (executive, finance, human resources, governance). All board members are elected for a two-year mandate, which can be renewed. Candidates need not live in Montreal, as meetings can be attended via phone. Being a board member requires a commitment of 5-7 hours per month.
