What Even Happened?
| How many seats did each party win? |
The United Conservative Party (UCP) won 63 out of 87 seats and will form a majority government. The Alberta New Democratic Party (NDP) won 24 seats and will form the Official Opposition. Outgoing premier Rachel Notley will stay on as Opposition Leader. |

What does all this mean? |
For the first time in a long time, there will be only two parties in the Alberta Legislature. The last time this happened was after the 1993 election. There were six parties represented when the Ledge was dissolved. The Liberals, Alberta Party and Freedom Conservative Party failed to elect any MLAs. The last Progressive Conservative MLA retired while the rest of the party merged with the Wildrose Party to form the UCP. |
| How many people voted? | The official results are now in! Elections Alberta says 1,905,520 votes were cast in the 2019 election, which is the most ever in the history of the province. The turnout comes in at 64%, which is the highest rate since 1982. Great job!! |
| What's this I heard about "Vote Anywhere?" |
For the first time, people were allowed to "vote anywhere" during the Advance Voting period from April 9 to April 13. That means someone could get a ballot for their home riding even if they were at a station in another part of the province, or in an Ikea store. Give us a sec while we collect ourselves... Sounds convenient, right? Turns out a lot of people agreed. 696,000 people voted at advance polls, including 223,000 "vote anywhere" ballots. During the 2015 election, there were 235,000 advance votes in total, so 2019 was a huge record setting year! |
| What's next? | Jason Kenney will become the next premier of Alberta and lead a majority government. They'll be sworn in on April 30, 2019. |
