I joined RISE so that I could connect with community members who share similar values and visions for our community - one where the voice of youth is not only considered, but uplifted. While it is easy to feel apathetic, I wanted to challenge myself to take action and contribute to my community by learning new skills and developing an exciting initiative alongside my peers.

She/Her (S/H)I believe we are at a point in our political climate where personal engagement and knowledge are more important than ever before. As I began to focus on the importance of community and democracy, I began seeking out opportunities which would allow me to make a meaningful impact. It was this desire to become more immersed in my community that I found RISE, and will hopefully meet many like-minded individuals and learn a lot!

He/Him (H/H)I saw RISE as an experience that is something outside my comfort zone but would be a great opportunity to learn more about my city, to a place to meet interesting people, and as a chance get to work on a project that is beyond myself.

He/Him (H/H)I joined RISE because supporting community initiatives and events is something I deeply value and consider an important part of my life. I am excited to be given this opportunity to gain more knowledge, develop new skills, and build meaningful experiences in civic engagement. I also look forward to connecting with others through the program, including facilitators and participants who share similar passions, learning from their perspectives and experiences, and collaborating together to create positive change and making a meaningful impact in our communities.

RISE gives me the confidence to explore topics I wasn't previously familiar with. I've always been curious about civic engagement but haven't fully immersed myself in it. As someone working in the nonprofit sector, I'm excited to learn from others, challenge my perspective, and better understand how young people can create meaningful change in their communities.

He/They (H/T)I joined RISE wanting to develop skills to make direct, organised change in my community. In being a RISE participant, I hope to learn of the resources available to me to make community initiatives and projects take shape, become familiar with the process of making them successful, and finally bring what I've learned to better advocate for issues that matter to me such as general accessibility and supports for homeless and low-income people.
