Table Topics

Table Topics

Since 2019, Table Topics has focused on a topic newsworthy or relevant to young changemakers, helping you feel comfortable sharing your views, listening to others, and engaging in respectful dialogue.

Why Table Topics?

You’ve heard it’s taboo to discuss politics at the dinner table? We say, F*** THAT! Research shows the more young people talk about politics, the more likely they are to take action. But if your friends, family or roommates avoid the topic, where will you be able to vent about the government?

That's why we created Table Topics.

Each event features panelists discussing youth-related issues, with participants engaging in group discussions and sharing their experiences.

And because food makes everything better, we share a meal or offer meal credits so you can enjoy a bite before, during, or after the event. We believe in feeding both your mind and your stomach!

Travelling Table Topics

After hosting 13 Table Topics events, we made way for Travelling Table Topics — led by Canadian youth, for youth like YOU.

We provided the tools and resources for youth leads across the country to make Table Topics their own with was panel-style conversation about a chosen topic.

Table Topics
IN YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD

What is Table Topics in Your Neighbourhood?

We're inviting you to host a conversation with friends (with food on us!), so you can talk about important topics that help you envision the future of Canada. This time around, we've got an ambitious goal of seeing Table Topics happen in every neighbourhood, and that includes YOURS. We want to reach every federal riding in Canada, yes, that means 343 different Table Topics.

Help us reach our goal, and get trained with us to host important convos in your neighbourhood!

We want you to get into the BIG questions

— What do young people want to see in Canada?
What do you want Canada's future to look like?
What do you want democracy to look like?
— What do you want for our climate and energy?
— What do you want for education, health care, etc?
— What about the future of work and jobs?

Why should you participate?

Living in an ideal, functioning society depends on what we're willing to do to create those ideals — we can start by having a simple conversation. In an era where young people feel lonelier and more disconnected than ever, learning how to communicate with one another productively is the perfect starting point. We’re here to help you have important community convos and think about what’s next for Canada!

Register below for a Table Topics training, and you’ll receive a how-to guide on creating intentional spaces for discussing politics and democracy with your community.
