Table Topics in Your Neighbourhood 2026-27

WHAT IS THIS INITIATIVE?

Table Topics in Your Neighbourhood is an initiative that supports youth in creating casual, easy-to-participate-in spaces for having intentional conversations about democracy in Canada.

Because living in an ideal, functioning society depends on what we're willing to do to create those ideals, doing that can be as simple as having a conversation.

Young people still feel lonelier and more disconnected than ever, and learning to communicate productively is the perfect starting point—that’s where Table Topics in Your Neighbourhood comes into play…

WHY PARTICIPATE?

Table Topics provides support and resources for youth to lead important conversations among peers, with the goal for youth to:

  • Engage with democracy
  • Connect with their peers, and
  • Increase their ability to participate in dialogue across individual differences

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Any young person between the ages of 16 and 30 living anywhere in Canada.

WHEN ARE THE TRAININGS?

Training sessions start in August 2026, with session scheduled every month (except for December) until March 2027.

WHEN DO YOU HOST YOUR EVENT?

When you attend a training, you can host your conversation at any time in that month as long as it takes place before the next training.

THE PERKS

  • Attending a free and comprehensive training on civics in Canada, facilitation, and event planning
  • Developing and strengthening skills in communication, hosting, community-building, and more!
  • Receiving a $150 budget to use towards food for your event
  • Meeting other young people from across the country who are also eager to lead important conversations in their communities.
