Let’s face it: mis/disinformation is a fast-growing problem - one that’s increasingly hard to keep up with. AI is getting smarter by the second, and it’s getting harder to tell what’s true and what’s false. On top of that, we’re becoming reliant on social media for a lot of our news without always knowing if the sources are credible or not. In 2024, Abacus Data found that 65% of youth see at least one type of disinformation at least weekly. Almost half of Canadians admit to occasionally sharing information they later discovered to be false, while nearly a third say they share information that might not be true. Not only that - younger Canadians are disproportionately more likely to report these behaviours! Apathy is Boring wants to equip youth to combat mis/disinformation in their daily lives.
This is where [IDEATHON 2025] comes in - join us at 7 PM ET/4 PM PT on March 25th, 2025,
for a 2-hour virtual brainstorm session where Canadian youth aged 16-34 will work together to answer these crucial questions: How can Apathy is Boring, or other organizations and institutions, get individuals to care about mis/disinformation’s impact? How can we ensure that resources being produced and created are seen & utilized by the public? And what are ways to disseminate info about mis/disinformation resources to make them accessible?
All you need is an internet connection and the ability to connect to Zoom and Miro boards. Join the session solo, or bring your friends along!
This session will be on Zoom and primarily in English, but we will have bilingual facilitators to support anyone who would like it.
The first 100 attendees will receive a $25 Doordash gift card.
