I joined RISE because it offered an opportunity to gather with people who hope to change the world for the better, who care about strangers, and who recognize the power of the people. All of this means being in an environment where we brainstorm possibilities and take action. I believe there is power in the collective. I believe there is power in hope. Collectives that organize, such as RISE, instill hope in me and in the community, and bridge the gap between wanting change to happen and making change happen.

She/They (S/T)The more papers I wrote on the importance of community engagement, the deeper the gap between my actions and my convictions became. I realized I was endlessly rehearsing a soliloquy without ever setting foot on stage. I joined RISE to compel myself to engage with peers outside familiar circles and turn ideas into projects. While the world offers an abundance of issues to address, RISE equips us to make an impact here and now.

She/Her (S/H)I want to create spaces where young people feel empowered to show up in their communities. I'm currently studying English Literature, where I've developed a love for storytelling, communication, and understanding diverse perspectives. Apathy is Boring gives me the opportunity to collaborate with others, contribute to meaningful community initiatives, and cultivate civic engagement.

She/Her (S/H)I joined RISE because I want to be more involved in my community and learn how to create meaningful change alongside other young people. I’m excited to meet people with similar values, grow my confidence, and use my creativity to help make civic engagement feel more accessible and welcoming.

She/Her (S/H)I joined RISE because I believe deeply in building communities that are grounded in justice and dignity. My passion for Palestinian liberation has taught me that real civic engagement means making sure that no one is left behind. I want to be a part of a future where every community feels included and hopeful, and RISE creates that space to turn belief in action.

She/Her (S/H)Our lives, freedoms and the institutions that surround us are shaped by democracy. As youth disengages and succumbs to apathy, the future of our autonomy and self-determination critically depends on our abilities to get involved. Rise is for me because I want to be a part of an eager collectivity and help other youth impose themselves as well.
