Why I joined RISE
I joined RISE because I wanted to explore civic engagement in a way that felt active and exciting, not just theoretical. I also liked that the program seemed fun while still being meaningful. On top of that, I knew I’d pick up useful skills like planning, teamwork, and communication that I can carry into any future projects.
Why I joined RISE
I recently relocated to Ottawa from Northern Ontario and am excited to dive into civic engagement opportunities in the capital city. By participating in RISE, I hope to gain a sense of local community, to make a positive influence on social issues I care about, and to gain skills that will prepare me for a career in policy or community research. I am particularly interested in climate change, disability justice, emergency preparedness, and health equity.
Why I joined RISE
I attended a previous RISE workshop, where I learned how to knit and where I met one of my good friends. This inspired me to be part of RISE and build community through RISE projects.

I joined Rise to be more involved in the community, and be part of building a project and collaborate with my peers. We can learn so much when we work together!
Why I joined RISE
I joined RISE because of how unique the opportunity is. As a youth, you do not typically get the chance to build something like this with the guidance of mentors. I have an interest in giving back to the community and see this as an amazing challenge to do so. The chance to meet like-minded youth also excites me.

I joined RISE to connect with other young change-makers and co-create a project that makes a tangible difference in my community. I’m excited to combine my skills in technology with a passion for social impact, and to learn from diverse perspectives along the way.
Why I joined RISE
I want to create solutions to problems in my community instead of just offering my sympathy and condemning the acts that lead to those problems. The current me is unable to do that as I lack the resources or the skills. I believe that my time in the program will teach me the skills needed to create those solutions. My time in the program will also provide the resources that will help me implement those solutions.
