He/Him (H/H)Why I joined RISE
I joined RISE for the experience of developing and executing a meaningful community project, making it happen from start to finish. While I have extensive volunteer experience, it's typically been as a part of established organizations. In RISE's emphasis on project development, I saw a way to round out my skillset and be better equipped to take initiative on issues in my community. I'm looking forward to learning from the rest of the cohort.

She/Her (S/H)Why I joined RISE
I joined RISE because I wanted to connect with a group of like-minded folks from my community on a project we all feel passionate about, with the ultimate goal of increasing youths’ civic engagement in our area. Civic engagement is often seen as an individual right, but it’s also a collective responsibility.

She/Her (S/H)Why I joined RISE
I believe in the power of youth in driving positive changes in the community when equipped and empowered with the right set of knowledge, resources, and tools. As someone fairly new to Canada, I believe this is my chance to RISE to the occasion—and be an integral part of that meaningful change by deepening my understanding of the local realities and sharpening my skills to effectively serve.

He/Him (H/H)Why I joined RISE
I joined RISE to hopefully strengthen my ability to engage young people in civic affairs and local politics. In my work as an urban planner, I’ve seen far too many important decisions shaped without youth voices, despite the fact that these issues often affect youth more acutely than other groups. Through RISE, I'm excited to expand my skillset, learn new approaches, and break down the barriers that keep people disconnected from shaping their communities’ future.

She/Her (S/H)Why I joined RISE
I was drawn to RISE as the program empowers folx to actively engage in their communities, creating a hub for collective action that aims to create positive change. While keeping up to date with local and world news, I often feel overwhelmed and ask myself - how can I help? How can I be a part of sustainable change that fosters a more just, inclusive, and accessible future? When searching for direction in this lane, AisB and the RISE program were recommended to me by a friend.
RISE gives me the opportunity to immerse myself in an environment that centres shared knowledge, helps me develop the skills I need to advocate for and support change, and strengthens my relationship with my community.

He/They (H/T)Why I joined RISE
I care deeply about being involved and making change in community. Being out, open and loud about my identity as a queer disabled person has strongly impacted the ways I show up in community. it’s so important that youth like me are given opportunities to be involved and heard. I hope being involved with Apathy is Boring can help contribute to a world where everyone is able to be the most authentic version of themselves
